Namadomain.com, a registration service website which was officially launched in Jakarta on June 22 by PT DotCom Indonesia, offers Internet businessmen or individuals to pay only Rp80,000 for registration fee once a year. The cost is much cheaper than the registration fee in the United States, where it is charged between US$15 and US$35 per year. This is part of our promotion programs. We offer the cheap price for 500 first registered individuals or companies,?Calvin Lukmantara, PT DotCom Indonesia chief executive officer, told a press conference last Thursday. Apart from the cheap registration service, he said members of his Namadomain will be provided with ree welcome page?and free email? Calvin said the competitive price is expected to encourage every company or individual in Indonesia to have his or her own website, adding that Namadomain serves the registration only for open domains (com, net and org). He said Namadomain was the first website in Indonesia to focus on registering names of domains. To register the domain name with Namadomain is easy, quick and automatic. Prospective members can pay to Bank Bali in real-time through its e-commerce secured online system. Canvin said his company expects at least 4,000 websites operating in Indonesia to register this year as the Internet business is booming despite the country long-lasting economic crisis. About 17 million names of domains have been registered across the world with the dotcom domain topping the registration, according to the latest data from DotCom Indonesia. Dotcom is the most popular domain [in the word],?Calvin said, adding that said almost 9.5 million websites were registered with dotcom domain. A name of domain is no longer merely an address in the Internet. It can now earns money if considered a good or branded name. It is even valued at millions of dollars when businessmen make it on sale at domestic and international secondary markets. For an example, Business.com and Korea.com were the most expensive domain names, costing at US$7.5 million and US$5 million respectively at national international secondary markets. The other eight costly domain names were Altavista.com, Loans.com, Autos.com, Wallstreet.com, Rock.com, University.com, Drugs.com, and Computer.com. At Indonesia secondary markets, Indomall, com was the most expensive domain name. It was sold at US$20,000 by its owner in the North Sumatra capital of Medan to a buyer in Jakarta. CoolBabies.com and NeoServer.com were bought respectively at US$10,000 to a user in the United States by an owner in Jakarta. Indonesians have been advised to create new domain names as soon as possible if they want to focus their business on the Internet. According to Calvin, there were still only about 5,000 single words which could be made good names?for their domains in Indonesia. his [finding] is based on my research on good domain names for several years, he said.
